Examination TextThomas Purford aged about 37 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of Greenwich in the County of Kent upon his oath saith, that he was (by the officers of the Parish of Kingston upon Thames in the County of Surrey) bound an apprentice by an indenture for seven years to Charles [Clark] a Cabinet maker (and Bladder Blower) in Salisbury Street in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields and there served his said Master about 10 years and then went to sea which is about 20 years ago, that he never was assigned over to any person kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, that he was married to his present wife Ann at the Parish Church of Ealing in the County of Middlesex the fourth Day of March the year of our Lord 1764 by whom he hath four children, to wit William aged eight years and upwards, John aged five years and upwards, Richards aged two years and upwards and James aged one year and upwards all now with this examinant.
