Examination TextThe Examination of Anne Gorne singlewoman taken upon oath this [blank] Day of February in the year of our Lord 1739. Who upon her voluntary oath saith that she is about 26 years old, that she never was married, that on Tuesday the sixth Day of this instant February she was delivered of a Male bastard child (since christened Edward) in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields within the liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex yet living and become chargeable unto the said Parish, and further saith that one Edward Ayres, a Stone Cutter had carnal knowledge of her body on a bed in the back parlour of the Turks Head Bagnio in Spring Garden in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid several times in Easter week last past at which or one of which times he begot on her body the said Male bastard child, and that he the said Edward Ayres is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
