Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Gorman singlewoman taken upon oath this 10th day of August 1742. Who upon her oath saith that she is about 19 years old, removed from the Parish of St Clement Danes, that she never was married or bound an apprentice kept house rented 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes or was a year together a yearly hired servant in any place, was born in Little St Martin's Lane in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that her father James Gorman was married to Rose this Examinant's mother in Ireland and who were both born there and never kept any house rented 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes or was a yearly hired servant together in any place in England as this Examinant knows or ever heard, And this Examinant upon her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that one John Clements a Doctor of Physick who lately kept house in ffetter Lane and now lives at Mrs Miller's a Fan Stick Maker in Drum Alley in Drury Lane had carnal knowledge of her body in her aunt's room up two pair of stairs in a house let out in tenements in Drum Alley aforesaid about one year ago upon the bed there and several times afterwards upon the same bed at which or one which times he the said John Clements and no man else did beget on her body the child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant off.
