An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King, at The Parish of Saint George Hanover Square
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the first day of September in the twenty eighth
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of
Great-Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas
Prickard
< no role > , Gentleman, Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City and Liberty, on
View of the Body of Henry Newell< no role > then and there lying dead, upon
the Oath of William Fryer< no role > , John Ray< no role > , John Stalker< no role > , Peter

and Mathew Burnett< no role > good and lawful Men of the said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what means the said Henry Newell< no role > came to
his Death, do upon their Oath say, That on the fourth day of August in the
Year aforesaid the said Henry Newell< no role > being in Covent Garden in the Parish of Saint Paul Covent Garden
within the Liberty and County aforesaid soon after the Poll was closed for the Election of a Member to
serve in Parliament for the said City and Liberty of Westminster And that a Person or Persons to
the Jurors aforesaid as yet unknown not having the fear of God before his or their Eyes but being moved
and seduced by the Instigation of the Devil on the said fourth day of August in the year aforesaid
with force and arms at the said parish of St. Paul Covent Garden within the Liberty and County
aforesaid in and upon the said Henry Newell< no role > in the Peace of God and our said Lord the King
then and there being feloniously wilfully and of his or their Malice forethought did make an assault
And that the said Person or Persons to the Jurors aforesaid as yet unknown with a certain Wooden Stick
or Sticks which the said Person or Persons unknown then and there had and held in his or their
Hands him the said Henry Newell< no role > in and upon the Head and Back of him the said Henry Newell< no role >
then and there feloniously wilfully and of his or their Malice forethought did strike and Beat
and that the said Person or Persons to the Jurors aforesaid as yet unknown did then and there give unto him
the said Henry Newell< no role > by such stricking and Beating with the Wooden Stick or Sticks aforesaid two mortal
Wounds on the top of the Head of him the said Henry Newell< no role > opposite to each other one of which Wounds
being on the right and the other on the left of which said mortal Wounds he the said Henry Newell< no role > at St.
George's Hospital in the said Parish of St. George Hanover Square within the Liberty and County aforesaid
from the said fourth day of August in the year aforesaid until the thirtieth day of the same month in the same
year did languish and languishing did live on which said thirtieth day of August in the same Year at the
said Parish of St. George Hanover Square within the Liberty and County aforesaid he the said Henry
Newell
< no role > of the mortal Wounds aforesaid did die. And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do
say that the said Person or Persons to the Jurors aforesaid as yet unknown him the said Henry Newell< no role > in manner
and by the means aforesaid feloniously wilfully and of his or their Malice forethought did kill and murder against the
Peace of our said Lord the King his Crown and Dignity. In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said
William Fryer< no role > Foreman of the said Jurors on the behalf of himself and the rest of his Fellows in their presence
have to this Inquisition set their Hands and seals the Day year and Place above written.
