Informations taken this Sixth
day of August 1781 at the Parish of
St. John the Evangelist Westmr. in the
County of Middlesex upon an Inquisition
touching the death of Edward Charles
Cocks
< no role > lying dead in the said Parish
Liberty and County

George Besset< no role > a Scholar upon the Foundation
of Westmr. School on his Oath saith, That
between Twelve and One o'Clock this day
he went with Edward Charles Cocks the Deced
(who was likewise one of the Kings Scholar
at Westmr. up Mill Bank and there
Bathed themselves in the River Thames
having first hired a small Boat of
Richard Roberts< no role > , which they rowed
up to the Place where they Bathed
Says that after they had Bathed, Dept.
Rowed the BoatwhereofChiefly down until
they come to some Barges upon the
River Thames at Mr. Bradley's Wharf
in the Parish of St. John the Evangelist
Westmr. Where they intended to go
to Shore Says that the Deced and this Dept.
there got up and with their hands
touched one of the Barger, but the Tide running
up Strong forced the Boat from the Barge
and Deced Accidentally fell into the Thames
between the Barge and the Boat, Says
That he twice Attempted to get hold of the
Deced, but could not, and the Deced was
immediately drove under the Barge, Says
