Twentieth day of March 1771 at the
Parish of St. Margaret within the City
& Liberty of Westmr . in the County of
Middlesex upon an Inquisition touching
the death of John Harding< no role > lying dead
in the said Parish City Liberty & County

John Taylor< no role > of Margaret Street near the Horse Ferry
Westmr. Waterman on his Oath saith That about ten
days age Dept. was standing at the Horse Ferry aforesd
and saw John Harding< no role > the Deced in a Barge upon the River Thames loaden
with Coals, and bringing the said Barge to the
Force Ferry, Says that the Deced Stood at the Head
of the Barge and Stepped out of it into another
Barge, & that the Deced's Bright foot shipped between the
Head of that Barge and the Bit at the Head [..]
[..] of it, Says that the Deced's Leg was very much
Bruised and bled, much in the Barge, and in Depts
Boat in carrying him to the Shore, Says that the
Deced was ever carried away upon a Chairman's
Horse, and carried to the Westmr. Hospital as Dept.
was informed, And this Dept. says that the Deced
Accidentally shipped and reced the hurt abovementioned
and that no Person touched him at the time it happened

John Cartwright Dickinson< no role > House Surgeon at the
Westmr. Hospital in the Parish of St. Margaret Westmr.
on his Oath saith, That on the [..] Seventieth day of this
instant March John Harding< no role > the Deced was brought
to said Hospital as an Accident, Says that the Deced
had a large contused lacerated Wound on the inside
of his right Leg extending about two thirds of his Leg
the parts being so much Bruised and the Vessels broken
that to prevent immediate Death from the Bleeding
which could not be stopped by any Instrument or
application on Accot. of the great Laceration it was
thought proper to Amputate it which Mr. Instamond
one of the Surgeons of the said Hospital performed
