Informations taken this Twenty first day of April
1764 at the Parish of St. James within the Liberty of
Westmr. in the County of Middlesex on an Inquisition taken
on View of the Body of Robert Griffiths< no role > lying Dead in the said
Parish Liberty and County.

John Steevens< no role > of Great Windmill Street in the said Parish of St.
James Upholsterer in his Oath saith, That on Thursday Night last
about Eleven o'Clock Deponent being in his own House heard the
Voice of one Person or two in the Street, and a Noise against
the Street Door as if somebody had fallen against it, Says that
he immediately opened the Street Door, and thereupon the Deced's left side
came against the Deponent, Deced being then as Deponent
believes upon his backside but Deced saw no other person
at the Door, Says that he spoke to the Deced several times
but Deced was speechless and could make no Answer, Says
that he saw no Marks of Violence on the Deced, says that he
was Alive when Deponent first opened the Door, and that
Deced died in about half on hour after, Says that he sent by
the Watchman who came there, and that said Watchman afterwards went to
the Watchhouse belonging to said Parish and brought the
Lanthorn bearer there, who fetched two Chairman, who
carried the Deced away upon their Horse, Says that he
this day viewed the Deced in the Workhouse belonging to the
said Parish of St. James and believes him to be the same of
whom he has given the above Account.

Robert Barnes< no role > one of the Watchmen of St. James Parish on
his Oath saith, that as he went along on Thursday Night last
crying the hour of Eleven, he saw Thomas Gardner< no role > and
another Person, whose Name Deponent does not know, [..]
in the Hay Market just before the Thistle and Crown, and the
Deced, who was in a Butcher 's Basket, Says that he asked the
Deced how he did, that the Deced groaned and said Namesake
how do you do, Says that Deponent Thomas Garden and
another Person lifted up the Basket with the Deced in it
and put it upon the Knot which the said Young Men
unknown had on, says that the said Man unknown did
