MIDDLESEX


WHEREAS it appears to us, whose Hands and Seals are hereunto set,
two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the County of Middlesex ,
(one of whom is of Quorum) and both dwelling within, or next the Limits,
of the Parish Church of the Parish of Saint John, at Hackney , in the said County,
as well upon the Complaint of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of
the said Parish, as also by the Examination of Mary Plyers< no role >
single Woman , taken in Writing, upon Oath, before us, and other Proofs, and
Circumstances, that she the said Mary Plyers
was, on or about the twenty seventh Day of November last
delivered of a Female Bastard Child in the Workhouse of and in
the said Parish, which is still living, and chargeable to the said
Parish, and that one Robert Davis< no role > a Carpenter who lately worked
with Mr Snewin a Carpenter in the said Parish
is the Father of the said
female Bastard Child. And whereas it appeareth unto us upon Oath, that
the said Robert Davis< no role > hath been duly summoned to appear
before us this Day, to shew Cause why he should not be adjudged the reputed
Father of the said female Bastard Child: And the said Robert Davis< no role >
hathappeared before us, pursuant to such Summons and been heard
in his defence again the said Charge and hath not been
able to clear himself therefrom

We do therefore, on the Oath of the said Mary Plyers< no role > and
other Proofs and Circumstances, adjudge the same to be true, and the said
Robert Davis< no role > is the reputed Father of the said female Bastard
Child, And we do order, that the said Robert Davis< no role > to do, on Sight of
this our Order, pay, or cause to be paid, unto the present Churchwardens and
Overseers of the Poor Of the said Parish of Saint John, at Hackney , or to either
of them, the Sum of Six Pounds Six Shillings
of lawful Money of Great Britain, so much being by them already expended
and laid out for, and towards the Charges arising by the said female Bastard
Child, being born in the said Parish, and for other necessary Expences occasioned
thereby; and that the said Robert Davis< no role > do also weekly, and every Week,
from and and after the Date hereof, so long as the said female Bastard Child shall
be chargeable to the said Paris, pay, or cause to be paid, to the Churchwardens
and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish for the Time being, or to either of them,
the Sum of three Shillings of like Money, for, and to-
wards the maintaining, keeping, and Education of the said female Bastard Child.
And we do hereby further order, that the said Mary Plyers shall
nurse, keep, and take Care of the said female Bastard Child. Given under
our Hands and Seals, this tenth Day of April
in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety five
