Middlesex

to wit Samuel Devoll< no role > of Turnham Green in the
County of Middlesex Victualler maketh Oath and saith that
he this Deponent on or about the Twenty [..] day of
March now last received Two Summonses which
appeared to this Deponent to be under the hand of Nathaniel
Bland
< no role > Esquire one of the Justices of the Peace for the County of
Middlesex requireing this Deponent to appear before the said
Justice on the Twenty [..] fourth day of the said month of March the [..]
followingat his the said Justices Office at Brentford in the
said County of Middlesex to answer Two Charges or complaints
which had been made by one William Clarke< no role >
against this Deponent as being the Proprictor of the Wendser
and Eaton Waggon and which Summonses Charged that the
Windsor and Eaton Waggon had travelled on two different
days therein mentioned without having the Christian
Name of the Proprietor there of And this Deponent further
saith that after he received the said Summonses and before the
time appointed for the hearings of the said Informations in the
said Summonses mentioned he this Deponent saw
one of the Runners or persons belonging to the said for.
Blands Office when this Deponent informed the said
person that he this Deponent should on the day mentioned
in the said Summonses be obliged to be many Miles
distant on very particular Business and there fore could not
attend at the time appointed by the said Summonses on the
said Mr. Bland but that he this Deponent would attent [..]
said Mr. Bland on the following day when the said Person
promised to inform the said Mr. Bland there of and which
Message as this Deponent verily believes was delivered by
the said person to the said Mr. Bland accordingly And this
Deponent further saith that on the day following the time
mentioned in the said Summonses for this Deponent to
appear as aforesaid he this Deponent did attend the said
Mr. Bland at his Office at Brentford but the said not Bean d [..] born his Offices tres [..] Deponent waited again on the sai [..] wsr Bland un they Twenty or of th [..] day of this S [..] month of Such
informed the said Mr. Bland he came to appear to the said
Summonses he had received to which the said Mr. Bland
said that he had Convicted this Deponent in to the Information
but on this Deponent informing the said Mr Bland of some
Irregularity in one of the Summonses there being a wrong
County mentioned there in the said Mr. Bland took the said [..]
Summons and drew his Pen a Cross it and said that he Shoud
quash one Correction out of the two and that he would
Settle the other upon easy Terms with this Deponent but
this Deponent being conscious that he had Convicted no
offence and that as it appeared to this Deponent the said
Informations had been laid with a view to exters Money
improperly from this Deponent he told that said Mr. Bland
he would not submit to pay any thing to him upon which
the said Mr. Bland said this Deponent must find Bail and
there fore this Deponent did enter into a recognizance with two
Sureties to prosecute an appeall against the said Conviction [..]
this Deponent paid the said Mr. Bland the sum of two Shilling
and four Pence as a fee which he demanded for taking the [..]
