Victualler On his Oath says that on 7th. Novemr he was at home (it) Bono Herrins< no role > . & hearing at wife
in the Street ran out & was inform'd by som bye standers that Captn Shanks & Captn. Looney
were about to quarrel, And Dept. said It was too late in Life for these true old Follows to
quarrel, and Sovn after Dept. heard a Report as of a Muskett And Dept. immediately went into
the House where the piece went off; & saw Capn. Looney lay a piece of fire Arms out of his
hand & Capn. Stanks was lying upon the Ground in the Kitchin of the house where Looney
laid the Piece of Fire Arms out of his hand & this Dept. look the Piece away to a back place
Then Dept. Spoke to Looney & asked him what have you been doingt. who answered that he had
been provoked to it a great White, and then Dept. applyed to Shanks still lying on the Ground
& would have helped him to rife but be could not bear such the Assistance Depont. was able to
give him, Dept. afterward Put his Fingers to the Wound Shanks had reced and found a great
hold in Shanks Sett sides And a certain Woman Supposed to be Looneys Wife said He [..]
Shanks is only frighted, he was not hurt, the Piece being loaded with Powder only, And
Says that Captn. Shanks Speaking to the Woman mentioned Said A [..] You vile, or you
wicked Woman It is owing to you that I come to this [..] Shook his Head at her.

Edward Germain< no role > of [..] Worcester Street aforesd Mariner On Oath says, Saturday being
the 7th. Novemb: 1761 about 6. Depont. was at Mr. Bon Herrins< no role > in Same Street & heard of Rupture
between Shanks Looney & Looneys Wife & heard the Report of a Gun & went into Looneys house &
saw Shanks lying on the Floor in the Kitchin & endeavoured to help him up: Shanks said he was
Killed: Dept. low his Shirt down to the Wast band of his Brookes found a large Wound on his lett side &
much blood, Then Depont. asked Looney how he came to be quilty of the Act, He replyed, that he had
brought, £265 in to that House & was grudged a Roll & butter for his Breakfast unless he worked for
It, & Seemed to be in great Passion, Depont. desired Some Person might take him into Custody but Looney
made no Attempt to Escapes Depont. apprehends Looney Shot Shanks there was a Gun standing on
on the Butt hearing against the side of the Kitchen naked near the Was house door, Depont. was
Present when Mr. Towlmin the Surgeon attended & heard him Say Mr. Shanks wound was Mortal

Abraham Toulmin< no role > of Old Gravel Lane in the Parish of Saint
George Middlesex Surgeon On his Oath says that on sd 7th. November
1761 about 7 in the Evening Deponent was sent for, & was told Captn.
Shanks had been shot, Depont. went, found It true, that Shank had [..]
been shot, &thatfound there was a large wond about the Expanse of half a
Crown on his left side quite through is body, by some sort of Gun
Marged with Powder & Small Shot only, wch was the Cause of his
Death.
