Mary Lane< no role > wife of Joseph Lane< no role > of Broad Street St. George Pilot says on her Oath
that on the same 7th. of November in the Evening She saw Captn. Shanks lying on the
Ground in the Kitchen of his house bloody & Mrs Looney was on her knees by him:
Among the Company He was helped up to his Bed and after much Attendance he was
heard to Matter - Kill an Innocent Man; but did not name any person as guilty
Depont. Stay'd till Shanks dyed And hearing the Surgeon say there was little hopes
is his Life the woundwaslarge &, great Effusion of Blood Depont. advised Looney
to deliver himself to a Justice Looney then demanded of his Wife some
money & obtained a Purse with ten eleven Guineas in It, Deponent
believeing Looney had shot Shanks asked Looney how to came to be guilty
of this Wicked Action his Wife answered he hathShot my DearCaptn. Shanks
secure him & hang him

Elizabeth Osman< no role > wife of Nicholas Osman< no role > now at Sea says she saw Capt.
Shanks some small time before he dyed & heard him say Gods Vengeance light on
him that wounded him for he shot him like a dog In ever thought It would have
come to this End, & declared himself to be an Innocent Man Deponent thinks he
alludes to Intercourse with Looneys Wife and that Hemeant Looney< no role > who that him

Says Same 7th. Novemr that Deponent liveing Opposite Captn. Looneys house
upon Captn. Shanks going in to Looneys house heard a Gun go off & saw
the Flash & is Possitive Captn. Looney let off the Gun for she heard Looney
say dam him a dog I'll blow his Brains out.
