"Offices, and other Persons within the same
"Limits and Jurisdictions respectively.

And whereas in pursuance of the Powers
given by the said Statute.The Court of
Quarter Sessions held on Monday the 15th.
Day of January, 1749, did order and direct
among other Things, "For maintaining all
"and every Vagabond for twenty four Hours,
"and so after that Rate, for a longer or
"shorter Time, and for the Passing, or Con-
"veying of any such Person or Persons whose
"Names are contained in one Pass, convey-
"ed or carried along together at one Time,
"or turn by Cart, or Horse Carrriage, the
"Rate of Six-pence a Mile and no more, and
"for Passing or conveying of such Person
" [..] Persons on Foot, under and less than
"Six pence, Etc.

And whereas great Frauds and Abuses
have been practised by the Constables and
other Officers conveying Vagabonds under
the said Order of Sessions, by acumulating
large Sums of the Publick Money to their
own USe, to the great Injury of this County,
for the Prevention of which.

The Justices of the Peace now assem-
bled in their General Sessions, do pur-
suant to the Power given them by the said
Statute repeal and declare, void the said
Order of Sessions of January 15th. 1749.
And

And the said Order is hereby declared to be
null and void.

And this Court doth in pursuance of the
Powers given by the said Statute, order and
direct, that for the future Vagabonds shall be
passed or conveyed, according to the Tenor
of the Contract entered into by the Court,
with James Sturges Adams< no role > for that Purpose,
and in no other Manner. And the Justices
of the Peace acting in and for this County,
and all Peace Officers and others, are hereby
required to conform themselves thereto, and
the several High Constables of this County,
are hereby forbid to receive or pay any Or-
ders of conveying to their respective petty
Constables or any other Persons contrary to
this Order. And the Treasurer of this
County is also hereby ordered and directed
not to receive into his Account any Orders
of conveying contrary to the said Order of
this Court.

And it is ordered by this Court that it be,
and it is hereby recommended unto his Ma-
jesty's Justices of the Peace for this County
respectively, that when any Person is brought
before them, and upon Oath, or upon their
own Confession charged with being a Rogue
and Vagabond, that such Justice do take the
Examination of such a Vagabond in writing
upon Oath, and order such Vagabond to be
either
