WHEREAS due Proof hath been made before UsNicholas
Jeffreys
< no role > and Thomas Thayer< no role > EsquiresTwo of
his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the saidCounty of Middx(Quorum
unus) inhabiting or near the Parish of St. Andrew Holborn above Bars
in the sd. countyupon the Oath ofAnn Twelves< no role > Single woman
the Mother ofa MaleBastard-Child, born theSeventeenthDay of
January last Pastin the said Parish ofSt Andrew Holborn above ye. BarsThat one
Thomas Horluck< no role > , a White Smith did beget on the Body of the said
Ann Twelves< no role > the saidMaleBastard-Child,
which said Child isnowbecome chargeable to the said Parish, of
Which the Church-Wardens and Overseers of the Poor there of have Com-
plained,unto Us Where fore.We the said Justices, upon the Examination
of the saidAnn Twelves< no role > the Mother, upon her Oath, touching
the Father of the said Bastard-Child, and the Cause and Circumstances there-
of: do hereby adjudge and declare the saidThomas Horluck
to be the reputed Father of the saidMaleBastard-Child, born of the
Body of the saidann Twelves< no role > in the Parish aforesaid: and
thereupon we do Order, as well for the Relief, and to save harmless, and
keep indemnified the said Parish, as for the maintaining and keeping the
saidMaleBastard- Child, that the saidThomas Horluck
shall forthwith, upon Sight of this our Order(a true Copy hereof being
first delivered unto him) Pay, or cause to be paid unto the Church-wardens,
or Overseers of the poor of the said parish, or to some one of them, for
and towards the Month's Lying-in, and Laying of the saidAnn Twelves< no role >
of the said Male Bastard childthe Sum ofTwelve Shillings
and six Pence,by the Week, for the first Four Weeks from the
Birth of the said Child, and after the Expiration of the said first four Weeks,
the saidThomas Horluckshall likewise
pay, or cause to be paid Weekly, and every Week the Sum ofTwo Shillings
and Six penceof lawful Money of Great-Britain, for and towards
the Relief and Maintenance of the saidMaleBastard-child, for
so long time as the said Child shall be chargeable to the said Parish of
St. Andrew Holborn above the Bars in the said County of Middx
And lastly, we do Order, that the saidThomas Horluck
shall forthwith give Security to the Church-wardens and
Overseers of the poor of the said Parish, for the true Performance of this
our Order: otherwise to find Sureties for his personal appearance at the
next GeneralQuarterSessions of the Peace to be holden for the said
County of Middxthere to abide such further Orders as the Justices
then and there Present shall think fit to make in that Behalf. Given under our
