Your Comittee Do further Observe That in the Accounts brought in by Gil: E [..] before [..]
for Islington he hath given himself creditt for £6.15s. paid to the Carters for d [..]
not demanded by either of your other Surveyors &) which wee conceive ought by [..] meanes [..]
but submitt it to the direccon of the Trustees

That in your said Surveyor Edwards Books of Acct. or in any of his Pockett books wee do not find that he
hath taken any notice or kept any Memorandum of the number of Loads of Ballast or Gravell or
Dirt carried away or delivered every day by each Team (As your other Surveyors have done) But
hath only taken a generall Account of the days work of each Team and yet he hath certified
upon the severall Bills brought in by the Owners of the Ballast and Gravell the parti [..] er
numbers of the Loads, which they have thought fitt to charge as delivered, and the Treasurer
has paid [..] accordingly How or by what means your said Surveyors Satisfied himself make
[..] th & justice of those Bills unless he took'em upon the good faith of the said respective
Owners Wee cannot conceive. And your said Surveyor Gil: Edwards< no role > having also acted As
Deputy for the year ending of Xtmas last for the Surveyorsforof the Parish of Islington (who
are also all of them Trustees for the Turnpike) and having kept no distinct Account in any of the
Books or papers he hath said before us betwixt the said Parish & the Turnpike of their respective
Teams or Labourers And the Justices who have Examined and passed the Accounts of the Surveyors
of the Said Parish (altho' applied to for that purpose by Order of the G [..] meeting of the
Trustees) having not thought fitt as yett to last your Comittee have A Co [..]
Comittee find it impracticable to discover any mistakes or undue ch [..] your [..]
Accounts having nothing whereby to checque or controll the same or to distinguish [..]
Account & the other and therefore submitt it to the direccon of the Trustees what further
Satisfaccon they may expect from their said Surveyor Edwards to Justify the truth of his Said
Accounts & whether they will not oblige him to lay before your Comittee A Copy of the Acct.
he has given into his Principalls on behalf of the said Parish

And your Said Comittee Do further recomend it to the Consideracon of the said Trustees That
for the future the Accounts of your said Surveyors may be put into Such A [..] thos & reduced to
Such A certainty That there may be proper Checques each upon the other Aswell in respect
to the number of loads of Ballast & Gravell bought and of whome when and where & when
where & by whome delivered & of the number of Loads of Dirt carried away by whom
from whence & where disposed As of the Days works of the Severall T [..]
imployed on Account of the Turnpikes And your Comittee think these things [..] more
necessary to be duly considered & Seller for that the Main of your charge Depends upon
the part [..] ers aforesaid As by the Abstract here unto Annexed, whereby [..]
in the 4 Months ending the 9th..of November last The Account of the [..]
only, Accounts to £1586.12s.8d. (vizt) for Labourers £503:10s:0d For [..]
Ballast & Gravell already paid for, £385:7s:8d. (besides 3338 Loads of
still owing for) It is Account for Teams already paid, for carriage of [..]
Dirt Accounts to £629.16s.0 It is Account for Dihhing £67.19s. [..]
work & addiconall rate on the parish Account of which your Co [..]
as aforesaid
