December 1799.

And the said Committee further Report That
being informed by Mr.. Aris that the Iron Gate on the
East side the entrance in the Prison was greatly out
of Repair that there were 3. Prisoners in the House of
Correction who are Smiths who could repair the same
if it met the Approbation of your Committee which
would save the County some Expence Your Committee
directed the Governor to employ the said Prisoners
in the Repairs abovementioned

And Your Committee further Report that
being applied to by Mr.. Aris for several Articles for
the use of the Prisoners in his Custody they Resolved
That Mr.. Aris should be at Liberty to provide One Dozen
of Shirts, One Dozen of Shifts Twelve neckhandkerchiefs
Twelve Caps Twenty four Rugs Twenty four Blankets
half an hundred weight of Crop Leather for Soleing
the Prisoners Shoes Six pound weight of Brown Yarn
for mending the Rugs, Six pound weight of White Yarn
for mending the Blankets and Six pound weight of
Yellow Yarn for mending the Prisoners Stockings

And Your said Committee further Report
That having Received the following Letter from the
Revd Dr.. Glasse Vizt..

"To the Chairman of Ye.. Prison Committee
"House of Correction .

"Sir

"I have received a Letter from a poor
"Carpenter who was Confined in the House of Correction
"during Ye. whole time of building the Governors house
"& also Acted as a kind of Foreman, saved the County
"a great deal of Money and has left behind him
"several marks of great Ingenuity and Industry
"particularly a Tool Chest of Considerable value, this
"Man is greatly distressed for want of a few Tools which
"he is utterly unable to purchase, I cannot but consider
"him as well entitled to a sum sufficient to procure
"him the Tools which are necessary for his use in
"promoting this object by the Recommendation of
