September 1799.

Evans and where; - Answer - Butcher applied
to me some time 1796. during the Confinement of
Evan Evans< no role > he said you know the Governor of
the House of Correction, I told him that I did
not only in an official situation but that he know
my Father and myself when I was an Infant,
Butcher then said that a Man of the Name of
Evan Evans< no role > was Committed to the House of Correction
and that he would be obliged to me to ask of the
Governor to Shew Evans some Indulgence I told
him I should seep with Mr.. Aris in the Evening
and that I would mention it to him when I got
to Mr.. Aris I told him he had got a Man of the
Name of Evan Evans< no role > in his Custody a Lottery
Vagrant that if he could shew him any Indulgence
consistent with the Regulations of that house
he would oblige me in Addition I asked the
Governor if he would permit the Friends of Evans
to see him the Governor told me he had no
objection if it would oblige me and that he would
Consider of it but that he could do nothing in it
till after the Committee met and when it was I
did Conceive and now do believe that the Governor had
an Opportunity by which he could state an Account
of a Mans good Conduct to get indulgence shewn
I think I told Mr.. Butcher that I should be at
the House of Correction on Sunday and that if he
would call in the Course of the afternoon I would
then ask Mr.. Aris if he had Considered what I
asked respecting Evan Evans< no role > and whether he Consented
to it, he said he had no objection and would meet
me Evan Evans< no role > was called down into Mr.. Aris's
Parlor Butcher< no role > saud how do you do Evans, I do
not recollect any indulgence asked by Butcher in the
presence of Evans I think Butcher said to the Governor
if he could shew any Indulgence to Evans he should
be much obliged to him and I think at the same
