January 1800.
In pursuance of the Order made at the last
Session recommending it to the Prison committee
to View the Kitchen Fire place in the House of Correction
and to give the necessary directions for putting the
same in good Order Your Committee viewed the
Kitchen Fire place attended by Mr.. Rogers the
County Surveyor and found the same greatly
out of Repair and it being Mr.. Rogers's opinion
that it would be more Advantageous to have
the present Range Taken down and the Old Range
reset which would admit a moveable Boiler to be
placed over the Fire to heat Water for the use of
the Prisoners without lighting the Fire under the
Copper and Consequently save a Considerable
Quantity of Fuel Your Committee directed Mr.. Rogers
to cause the present Range to be taken down and
to put up the Old Range and to place a Boiler over
the Fire place for the purpose of heating Water for
the use of the Prisoners.
And Your said Committed further Report
That in Consequence of it having been stated to the
Court at the last Session that a Paragraph had
appeared in some of the Daily Papers stating that
a Prisoner named Cantrill had suffered much in
his health from the severities he Experienced during
the short period that he was Confined in the House
of Correction Your Committee Requested a Dr.. Budd
Physician
to St.. Bartholomews Hospital
to View
the House of Correction and in particular the all
in which Cantrill was Confined and that in
Consequence of such desire Dr.. Budd did visit
the Prison and transmitted his Opinion thereon
to the Chairman of the Committee which is as
