Mr. Akerman demanded of the County Treasurer
13s/4d for each Prisoner under the Stat. of the 14th. Geo: 3d. but which
demand he afterwards waived.

By Statute 16th. Geo: 3d. Cap: 43 Sec: 4th. It is Enacted
that all expences incurred by any Sheriff or Gaoler in the conveyance
of any Offender shall be paid by the County Etc. for which the
Court ordering (such punishment by hard labour instead of
Transportation to America ) shall be held and the Sheriff or
Gaoler shall receive the Money due for such Expences from the
Treasurer of such County Etc by Order of the Justices of the Peace
at their Quarterly on other General Session who are hereby required
to make such Order accordingly. Sec: 17th. Provided always
and be it further Enacted that such Clerk of Assize, Clerk of the
Peace or other Clerk of the Court and the Sheriff or Gaoler shall be
paid by the Treasurer of the County Etc. the like satisfaction as hath
been usually paid for the Order of Transportation of any Offender.

By Statute 18th. Geo: 3d. Cap: 62. the above Act is
continued unto the 1st. June 1779.

During part of the time that Felons were punished by
hard labour on the River Thames Vizt from the Month of July 1776 to
the Month of July 1778 the Fee of 14s/10d. together with the Expences
of Conveyance of the several Offenders convicted in Middlesex was paid
by the Treasurer of the County of Middlesex by order of the Justices

By an Act of 19th. Geo: 3d. Cap: 74 Sec: 30th. made to explain
and amend the Laws relating to the Transportation, Imprisonment,
and other Punishment of certain Offenders It is further Enacted
"That the Clerk of Assize or other Clerk of the Court shall have the
same Fee Gratuity or Satisfaction on granting such Certificate and the
Sheriff or Gaoler shall have the same fee on delivering out of his Custody
any such Offender so to be Ordered to any such Penitentiary House
or other place of hard labour as hath been usually paid and would
have been due to them respectively if such Offender had been sentenced
to Transportation except in the case of Petit Larceny wherein they
shall have only such Fees as have usually and of right been paid
upon Conviction for the said Offence and Judgment to be whipped
