The said Committee Report That the first Meeting of this
Committee was held on Tuesday 17th. January 1786 .

It appearing to this Committee that the Method of raising the Sum
of £4000 for the purchase of the Ground though it stands last in the above recited
Summary of the Business to be brought before them is in its Nature and Importance
the Primary objects of Attention, it was judged necessary in the first place to
enquire into the Extent of the Powers given to Magistrates in this respect by the
Statute 24th. Geo:3rd Chap 55. And doubts having arisen in the Minds of
the Committee, whether a sufficient power is granted by the said Statute for the
purchase of Land otherwise than by Implication rather than in express terms
It was Resolved that a Case be drawn and laid before some Eminent
Counsel for his Opinion that the Committee might be fully satisfied on this
Point and might not enter prematurely on the business submitted to their
consideration It Was Therefore Resolved That the Committee do
adjourn to Saturday the 21st. January and that the Clerk be directed to
obtain if possible an answer to certain Queries relative to this Matter
by that time.

The Second Meeting was held 21st. January 1786 according to
the adjournment
