Adams succeeded his late Father James Sturges Adams< no role > as Contractor
for conveying Vagrants in through and out of this County at a Salary
of £250 P Annum, that in the Year 1775 in consequence of some
Regulations being made by the Court and of the then cheapness
of Hay and Straw the said Henry Adams< no role > This name instance is in set 1591. relinquished £50 P
Annum (part of the said Salary) which reduced the same to £200

That in January Session 1777 the Price of Hay
and Straw being vastly increased the said Henry Adams< no role > This name instance is in set 1591.
Petitioned the Court for an Augmentation of the allowance then
made to him for executing his said Contract and upon consideration
of his Petition the Court allowed him a further Sum of £50
which again brought his Salary to £250 P Annum, and which
Sum has been allowed him ever since, That during the first
Three Years of the said Henry Adams< no role > This name instance is in set 1591. 's Contract he removed
annually upon an Average 1245 Vagrants, that of late the
number of Vagrants removed by the said Henry Adams< no role > This name instance is in set 1591. has
greatly increased in so much, that during the last Three Years
Ending at April 1784 he has removed annually upon an
Average 2637 which is above double the number he removed
during the three first Years of his Contract It is therefore the
opinion of your Committee that the Sum of £100 ought to be paid
the said Henry Adams< no role > This name instance is in set 1591. for the extra Care Attention Trouble and
Expence which has been brought upon him in consequence of
the great increase of Vagrants that have been removed by him
during the three Years last past Ending April 1784
