Govnmt. of the
House of Corr.}

It being represented to this Court that John Turner< no role > the Governor or Keeper of
the House of Correction at Clerkenwell hath very much neglected the Duty of his
said Office Place or Employment by leaving the said House for several Days
without any proper Person to take care of the same And that there have been
Disturbances committed by the Wife of the said Turner and it appearing to
this Court by the Confession of the said Turner and otherwise that he is become
greatly in Debt to divers Persons and unable to make Payment By which
it is manifest that he is very unfit to govern the said House of Correction
It is therefore Ordered that he be and he is hereby suspended from his said
Office or Employment until the next General Quarter Session of the Peace to be held
for this County and until further Order shall be made in the premisses And James
Elmore the Keeper of the Tap in the said House of Correction is hereby
appointed to take Care of the said House of Correction and the prisoners therein
and thereto committed in the mean time He entering into the usual Bond to
three of his Majesty's Justices her present to perform that Duty And the said
James Elmore< no role > is to take and receive all the Fees and perquisites that shall arise
whilst he shall have the Care of the said House And thereout to allow and
pay the said John Turner< no role > the sum of Twenty six Shillings Weekly for his
Maintenance until the said next Sessions and until further Order shall be
made therein and to lay a true Account in writing before the Court at the
said next Session of all Fees and perquisites he shall have received to be
subject to the Direction of that Court Which the said James Elmore< no role > doth
consent and agree to do
