That they have in pursuance of the Said Order met together at
Hickshall and have received Several Petitions of Persons desiring to
be appointed Matrons of the House of Correction at Clerkenwell
in the place and Stead of Mrs. Jane Cavenagh< no role > deced the late Matron,
And that upon hearing the Said persons who appeared before the Said
Justices they are of Opinion that Sarah Whittenberry< no role > Wife of John
Whittenberry who< no role > both reside and have an Apartment already in
the Said House of Correction may be a proper Person to be Matron
of the Said House if the Court of this present Sessions Shall think
fit, And that She be allowed the Sallary of Ten Pounds a year
payable by the Keeper of New Prison by quarterly payments, the
first quarterly payment to comence from Midsumer next for her
trouble and Pains in performing hertheBusiness of Matron, and that
She have the Matrons Apartment in the Said House of Correction ,
and keep her Residence there, And that She take care of and be
Assistant to Such Women as Shall happen to be with Child and delivered
of the Same in the Said House, and that Shebealso be assisting to and
look after Such other Persons as Shall be Sick in the Same House,
But the Said Justices do not think that She ought to provide a Bed
or Bedding or to relieve Such persons at her own Expence, And
that the Keeper of the Said House do permitt the Matron to enjoy
her Apartment quietly without Disturbance. Now upon
application made unto this Court by the Said John Whittenberry< no role >
and Sarah his Wife praying that this Court will be pleased to
appoint her the Said Sarah Whittenberry< no role > to be Matron of the Said
House of Correction , This Court upon Consideration of the
Premisses Doth confirm the Said Report, And doth there upon
Nominate and appoint the aforesaid Sarah Whittenberry< no role > to be
Matron of the Said House of Correction at Clerkenwell in the place
and Stead of the Said Jane Cavenagh< no role > , To have hold execute
and ejhoy the Said Office Place or Employment of Matron and
to keep her Residence there, and to take care of and be assistant
to Women who Shall happen to be with Child and delivered of the
Same in the Said House, and also to be assisting to and lookafter
Such other Persons as Shall be Sick in the Same House, And also
to have and to hold the Rooms and Appartment with the
