suppressing of publiqe
gameing houses, houses
of bawdry Etc

Whereas upon reading the Robt of Sr. Henry Fetherston< no role > Baronet
Robert Thornhill< no role > John Milner< no role > This name instance is in set 4214. and Thomas Burdus< no role > Esquires four
of his Majesties Justices of the Peace for this County to whom (intal)
It was referred by Order made at the Generall Sessions of the
peace holden for this County by adjournment on the fourth day of
December last to inspect & consider what Laws are in force
against persons Keeping of Publique gameing houses or Bawdy
houses To the end it might be concerted what methods
may be most effectual & proper to be used for the preventing
& Suppressing such evil practices for the future, And to certify
an accompt of the matters thereby recomended unto them, unto
this Court, It appeareth to this Court that the said Referrees
have inspected the Statute made in the thirty third Year of
the reign of King Henry the eighth Cap. g whereby the Justices
of Peace in every shire, Mayors, Sheriffs, Bailiffs & other Head
Officers in every City Town & Burrough have power to enter
into all houses & places where they shall suspect unlawful
Games to be used, and as well the persons keeping the same
as those playing thereat to take arrest & imprison untill
such time as the Keepers of such houses & places shall enter
into Recognizance with Suretyes no longer to Keep such
house or place, And the persons so found be bound by
themselves or with Suretys at the discretion of Ye. Magistrate
no more to play at such Games or Haunt those places,
And whereby the Mayors Sheriffs Bailiffs Constables and
other Head Officers within every City Burrough or Town aswell
within Franchises as without are required to make due search
Weekly or at the furthest once in every Month where such
Houses or places are suspected to be kept or maintained, And
the said Statute Enacts that no person shall Keep or hold
any Gaming house or place for any unlawfull Games then
invented or then after to be invented, And that the said
Referrees have inspected the Statute made in the tenth &
eleventh Years of the reign of King William the third Cap: 17
whereby Lotterys are called mischievous & unlawfull Games
& comon Nusances, & Patents grants & licences of them are
declared void in Law, And that they have also inspected the
