On the prosecution of Edward Longden Mackmurdo

The above named Edward Longden Mackmurdo of Cheapside London
Linen draper , John Leeke< no role > of Fleet Street London Linen draper and Edward
Vint late of Cheapside London Linen draper , but now of Dratford in the County
of Kent each speaking for himself and not the one for the other severally make
Oath (as follow) and first this Deponent Edward Longden< no role > Mackmurdo for
himself saith that in the Month of April last many piece of printed
Cottons belonging to this Deponent Edward Longden Mackmurdo and his
late Partners Charles Greaves< no role > and William Hodgson were unloading
from a Waggon standing in Cheapside aforesaid into this Deponent's
Warehouse No.131 there, which Piece were carried upon Mens Shoulders
from the said Waggon into this Deponent Edward Longden< no role > Mackmurdo's
said warehouse, and Business of this Kind is mostly done hastily; And
this Deponent Edward Longden Mackmurdo further saith that the other
Deponents John Leeke and Edward Vint were present at the unloading
of the said Cottons, and that the abovenamed Thomas Simons< no role > being in
Cheapside aforesaid went up to the End of the said Waggon and that as the
Deponent Edward Vint was examining the said Cottons as they were taking
out of the waggon he said to the said Thomas Simons< no role > "hear, do you take
one of the pieces" and the same was given to him, and the said Thomas
Simons went with it as far as the fore Horse of the Team where he was
stopped by this Deponent Edward Longden Mackmurdo, and
taken into Custody and after he was taken into Custody he did
not ofter to excuse himself save that he persisted in declaring that he
considered the said Piece of Cotton to be a Gift to him that he might
have, and the said Thomas Simons< no role > was afterwards on the same Day
carried before Mr. Alderman Hammett, and the said Thomas
Simons saying nothing for himself before the Alderman (except that his
Countenance would clear him) was by the said Alderman committed
to Wood Street Compter to take his Trial at the then following Sessions
at the old Bailey , and upon that Occasion this Deponent Edward
