taken before me this 13th. day of
February 1781
Who being upon Oath say, and first the said Richard
Thomas for himself says that on Friday Night the 19th. day of January
instant between the hours of nine and ten o Clock as he was standing
in Charterhouse Square
he heard the Cry of "Stop Thief " and saw
a person now present who calls himself Charles Stokes< no role >
running from
the person who called out Stop Thief on which he ran towards
him and threw him down, when the Officer took him in to Custody
And the said Thomas Williams< no role >
for himself says that as he was
feeding his Horses with his Hackney Coach in Charterhouse Square
on the Friday Night aforesaid and about the same time he heard
the Cry of "Stop Thief" on which he looked round and saw said
Charles Stokes< no role >
(as he doth verily believe) running away
Says that he saw said Thomas throw the said Man down
in said Square when he was taken into Custody
