The Information of Richard Ward< no role > taken before
me this 5th. day of November 1778

Who being upon Oath says that last Friday about 10 o' Clock in the
Forenoon he went to the House of John Hartley< no role > now present in Maire
Court in Southwark where he found James Beane< no role > and Lambert Smith< no role > and
John Hartley< no role > now present as also Daniel East< no role > in Company together some
of whom were playing it Cards, that the said James Beane< no role > asked this
informant if he would buy some Watches to which this Informant assaul-
ting the said James Beane< no role > and this Informant went into a Room
up [..] of stairs where the said James Beane< no role > showed this
Informant a Number of Silver Watches in a Hot Box, that the said
James Beane< no role > and this Informant bargained for twenty Shillings a piece
for the said Watches and to the best of this Informant recollection
the said Daniel East< no role > came into the Room Whilst they were bargaining
that this Informant went home for Money and in about three hours
returned to the said John Hartley< no role > 's House where he found the said James
Bean John Hartley< no role > Daniel East< no role > & Lambert Smith as also me Henry
Sterne
< no role > , and a Jew whose Name this Informant does not know and
a Woman or two, that the said James Beane< no role > and this Informant went
upstairs into the said Room where the Watches were and the said Henry
Sterne immediately followed them at the said James Beane< no role > there
delivered to this Informant forty one Silver Watches and this
Informant paid the said James Beane< no role > thirty six pounds in
Money that the said Henry Sterne< no role > was present being the Transaction
and the said John Hartley< no role > Lambert Smith and Daniel East< no role > were
present part of the Time and were well acquainted with the Transaction
that after the Affair of the Watches was finished the said James
bean produced a Number of Gold Rings and Gold Barest Buckles
for which this Informant agreed to give him as much as would
