David Langar< no role > of Southampton Master of the Ship or Vessell called
the Cardigan and William Harris< no role > of the same place one of the Mariners
belonging to the said Ship or Vessel severally make Oath and say that on
or about the fifteenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord One Thousand
seven hundred and sixty two the said Ship or Vessel sailed from Port Sea
in the said County of Southampton laden with Eighty Tons or Three
Thousand Two hundred Bushels of English White Salt for and on Account
of John Stewart< no role > of London Merchant the Owner thereof which said
Salt had been shipped on board the said Ship or Vessel from the Great
Salterns there on the twelfth Day of the said Month of September or
thereabouts and cleared at Portsmouth in order to be conveyed by Sea
to Plymouth in the County of Devon and that the Duty for the said Salt
had been duly paid to his Majesty And that the said Ship or Vessel with
the said Salt on board her in the Course of her Voyage from Portsea
aforesaid to Plymouth aforesaid met with very violent and storm ye
Weather and the Sea run over her by which means the Water unavoidably
run into her Hold and damaged her Cargo insomuch that Ten Tons and
Six Bushels or Four hundred and six Bushels of Salt part of the said
Cargo of Salt were totally lost and perished at Sea And both these
Deponents say that the Loss of the said Salt was not occasioned by any
Leekage of the said Ship or Vessel or by any Negligence or Default of
the said Deponent David Langar< no role > or any of the Mariners belonging
to the same.
