taken before me this 1st.
day of February 1787
Who being upon Oath Saith, that on a Monday about
the 12th. of January last a person calling himself "Byron"
came to this Informants House and wanted to rent the
second FloorThat this Informant knowing nothing of said
Byron, asked him of whom he was to enquire for his
Character, when said Byron referr'd him to the Master
of the London Coffee house
, whether he wentbeand enquired
but could find no Account of himThat said Byron
then referr'd this Informant to Mr. Mason No. 4 Argyle
Street, with upon he said he was connected in a
Coal Nine in Yorkshire
That upon this Informant
applying at No. 4 aforesaid John Henry Aikles< no role > This name instance is in set 44221545.
now
present appeared and said that his Name was "Mason"
and upon this Informants asking him if he knew Mr.
Byron, he enquired "what Mr. ByronMr. Byron
of Carshalton"this Informant replied "Yes"when
said Aikles observed that he (Mr. Byron) was a
Gentleman and a Man of Fortune and that this
Informant was very Safe
