. Taken this Twenty second day of
January 1787
before us two of his Majestys Justices of the peace
in
and for the said County.
Who being upon Oath Saith that about a Quarter past nine on Saturday [..] night
last. a person now present who calls himself John Paxton< no role >
passed him
near the Sign of the Britannia and Limehouse
Cut Ash Bridge going
towards Ron Lane
and directly followed hourThat in about five
Minutes after another man with a large Bag came and throwed the said
Bay down on the said Bridge and ran away. That Informant called to him to
Stop but that he did not, That he went and took up said Bay and
found it Con [..] Sacred Yarn which Yarn has been claimed by Peter

whose foremises are near. Fast her Saith that both Paxton and
the other man came along the Towing Path of the said Cut and that
Paxton went over the said Bridge towards Rose Lane
and that the other
person after he had so thrown down the Bag as aforesaid returned back
the way he came That Paxton came back to the said Bridge without
saying a Word to Informant Further Saith that on his discovering
a Person standing at the Corner of the Wall he went to [..]

he was when he went away but on his calling to him he came back
when Informant charged him with knowing and having been Concerned
with taking the saidBagwho at first denied it but afterwards Confessed
that Hicks was Concerned in Stealing the said Yarn from their Master
