the Parish of Saint Olive Southwark
in the County of Surry
Gentn.
Taken this 6th. Day of October 1784 before me,
of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace
in and for the said County
Who being upon Oath saith that about Ten O Clock in the Morning of
Monday the Twenty Seventh day of September last being
then on Board the Ship Bellmont an Past India Ship
lying at Blackwell
in the said County he then and
there discovered one James Lee< no role >
(a Lumper who had
been Employed in the unloading of the said Ship.)
with a Quantity of Salt Petre concealed in the inside
of his Stockings ofhisBoth Legs. Whereupon he gave
Notice to John Bevan< no role > This name instance is in set 1523.
the Chief Male then Commanding on Board
who Caused him to be secured and to be brought before
me the said Justice. And this Informant lastly
Saith that the said James Lee< no role >
being now present is
the same person he so discovered at aforesaid and that
the Salt Petre now produced is as he verily believes the
same which was so found concealed as aforesaid and is
the property of Captain Robert Preston< no role >
and others the
Corners of the said Ship Bellmont.
