The Information of
James Poole< no role >
of the Ship
at Chelsea
taken before me this 9th. day of
February 1769
Who being upon Oath says that on the 18th. of November last
a person now present who calls himself Samuel Meers< no role >
came
to lodge at his house for a Night, that there was in the [..] Closet
belonging to the Room where the said Samuel Meers< no role >
lay a Box
containing Apparel belt Mens & Womens that betwixt 10 & 11
Clock the next Morning the said Samuel went away that the day
after the day that the said Samuel went away he this Informant
wanting his Cloaths was informed by his Wife who went to fetch
them that they were stolen, that he went up to examine them & found
that the said Box had been opened and locked again and that there
was stolen out of it [..] a brown Waistcoat and several pair of
Stockings, and out of a Drawer in the same [..] Room several Yards of
Muslin, and two hats out of 2 Boxes, and this Informant further
says that he does suspect on that the said Samuel Meers< no role >
stole the
aforesaid things because no other person to his Knowledge went
into the said Room except his own family and because a Key
said to be found upon the said Samuel open the said Box
