Informations of Witnesses taken at the Dwelling House of
John Southall< no role > the Sign of The Ship Essex
Street
in the Parish of St. Clement Danes in the County of Middlesex on
Tuesday the twentiethday of June 1786 Before
Thomas Phillips< no role > Esquire one of his Majesty's Coroners for the
said County touching the Death of Thomas Cardell< no role >
then and there lying dead as follow.

Edward Conner< no role > Waiter at the Hope Mitre Court
Fleet Street Upon his Oath Saith That Yesterday
Morning Deponent and deceased (who Slept with him
got up by Deponents desire to go to bathe in the river
[..] which they did together at the Temple Stairs
after they had been in the Water about ten
Minutes the deceased (who could not [..] ) asked
Deponent to show him how he said he would &
did so about three Yards and just then the
deceased (Who was not out of his Depth) on a
Sudden grasped Deponents who thought he was
at play laughed asked what ye matter and
thought he was in a fit took him in his Anns
was bringing him a Show but there was a
deeper place than Deponent was aware of
upon Which Deponent Shipped & in doing so
could not hold deceased who fell from his
Arms and such Deponent on deceased to got
him out but could not & the every assistance
was given he was full 20 Minutes under the
Water and the every method was [..] could not he
[..] to Life
