An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the parish
of Saint Thomas within the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey on the
twenty Sixth day of June in the thirty ninth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord
George the third King of Great Britain and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman
Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view
of the body of George Salter< no role > now here lying dead by the oath Thomas Barnfather,
James Bayley< no role > , Edward Powell< no role > , George Benton< no role > , Constantine Briggs< no role > , William Jagg< no role > ,
William Skinner< no role > , Decimus Haywood< no role > , John Harris< no role > , William Howard< no role > , Thomas
Parry, James Smith< no role > , John Lee< no role > , John Brown< no role > , John Buckle< no role > , and Jeremiah Holliday< no role > ,
good and lawful men of the Borough and County aforesaid who being now here duly
chosen sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the King when how and in
what manner the said George Salter< no role > came to his death say upon their oath that the said
George Salter< no role > on the twenty fourth day of June in the year aforesaid being on a certain ladder
and employed in repairing a certain house situate in Bermondsey street in the parish of
Saint Mary Magdalen Bemondsey in the County aforesaid and a certain person whose
name to the Jurors aforesaid is unknown being driving a certain Cart drawn by three
horses a long and through the said Street It so happened that the said Cart accidentally casually
and by misfortune struck against the said ladder whereby the said George Salter was
accidentally casually and by misfortune thrown from and off the said Ladder to the ground and
Stone pavement there by means whereof the said George Salter< no role > did then and there receive
one mortal wound in and upon his back of which said mortal wound he the said
George Salter< no role > on the said twenty fourth day of June on the year aforesaid as well at the
said parish of Saint Mary Magdalen Bermondsey in the County aforesaid as also at the said
parish of Saint Thomas within the Borough and County aforesaid did languish and languishing
did live on which said twenty fourth day of June in the year aforesaid the said George Salter< no role >
at the parish last aforesaid within the Borough of Southwark aforesaid in the County aforesaid
of the said mortal wound did die.-And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid
do say that the said George Salter< no role > in manner and by the means aforesaid accidentally
casually and by misfortune came to his death and not otherwise and that the off
[..] said Cart was moving to the death of the said George Salter< no role > and is of
the value of one pound and one Shilling and the property and in the possession of
Crouch ofIn Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Thomas
Barnfather the foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his fellows
in their presence have to this Inquisition set their hands and Seals the day year and
place first above written.
