Employment of the
Prisoners Considered.The Committee met again to take into Consideration the
referrence from the General Court of the 27th. April last
"To Consider whether any mode of employing the Prisoners
"committed to this Hospital can be adopted so as in future to
"render their employment more productive to the Charity"
And having reflected on the observations which they made in
their visit to the New House of Correction
for the County of Middlesex
together with such Information as they have been able to
procure from other Quarters, were unanimously of Opinion, that
no better mode of employing the Prisoners committed to this
Hospital had presented itself to the Committee, than beating
of Hemp and cutting Ropes and picking the same into Oakum
Opinion of Commee.

have the Sole Management and direction of the said Work
whose particular Business it should be to superintend the
Labor of the Prisoners
The Committee were also of Opinion, that a sufficient
quantity of Hemp be provided for the employment of the most incorrigible People committed to this House, more fully to
