Continued Thursday 15th Novr. 1781 .

It is Ordered that Mr. Deputy Rogers Mr. Saml. Swain< no role > &
John Spiller< no role > Esqr . or any two of them be desired to Inquire if the
said Joshua King< no role > be set up for himself in his Trade and of his
hopefulness therein and Report the same to the Court.

Stewart Thomas< no role > to be made free


At this Court Thomas Stewart< no role > late Apprentice
to Roger Owen< no role > was Ordered to be made free of this City Grates

Upon Reading a Report from the House Committee
in the words and figures following Vizt. At a Committee
Wednesday 24th. October 1781 This Committee finding a Vacancy
of an Artsmaster in this Hospital caused Advertizements to be
Published several times in the daily Advertizer as follows Viz.
Bridewell Hospital An Apartment of one of the Artsmasters
in this Hospital being now Vacant any Shoemaker in the
Womens way of good Character who is inclinable to fill up the
Vacancy may give in their Names at the Clerks Office (where
they will receive further Information) any Morning before the
6th.day of November next soon after which there will be an
Election N. B. None but Freeman of the City of London can
be admitted as Candidates and accordingly two Shoemakers
left their Names and Notice being given to them that the Comittee
would meet this day to consider of the several Applications that had
been made the following (Persons Attended and brought Samples
of their Work Vizt. Joshua Chapman< no role > at No.14 Shoreditch and
William Scripps< no role > at No. 2 Little Turnstile Holborn . They both
Professed themselves to be of the Church of England as by Law
Established and the Committee upon the best Inquiry they could
make have no reason to object to the Character of either of them
or their Skill in their Trade All which is Nevertheless submitted
to the Judgment of the Court.

Artsmaster
Scripps William Elected


This Court proceeded to the Election of an Artsmaster and
the humble Petitions of Joshua Chapman< no role > and William Scripps< no role >
being severally read each setting forth that he is willing to take
such a Number of Apprentices as the Court shall Order and to
keep his Apartment in repair with Flooring Glazing
Plaistering and White washing at his own Expence and to
Comply with all Orders of the Court and Committee made and to
