Esqr . in the Words and figures following'' The Memorial of the
Grand Committee of Bethlem Hospital held the 26th. of September
1777It having been represented to this Committee that Provisions
have been carried out of this Hospital for about four or five Months
past with the knowledge and Consent of the Steward and by the
direction of Mr. Thomas Horne< no role > one of this Committee to his House
in Old Swan Lane Thames Street and the Committee having
entered into an Examination of several of the Officers and Servants
of this Hospital it Appears by the Evidence of Reynold Davis< no role >
Porter to this Hospital That things have been sent for four or
five Months past from this Hospital to Mr. Horne every day
in a Basket and that the same were carried by Watkin Walters< no role >
one of the Assistant Basket Men . That he examined the Basket
once and saw some Bread and Meat in it. That some Milk
was carried at eight o'Clock in the Morning. That he did not
know but the Provisions were sent by Order of the Committee.
That the Steward never gave Particular Orders for Provisions
to Pass the Gate. But that he has heard him direct Walters to
carry them to Mr. Horne that about two Months ago when
Mr. Horne took in his Coals he sent for two Facks of Beer of
about four or five Gallons each but does not know of Beer being
sent at any other time. That about a Quart or three Pints of
Milk were sent day. And it further Appears by the
Evidence of John Miles< no role > an Assistant Basketman . That it
is his Business to Cut out the Provisions. That he has been
in the Hospital about four Years. That for about four Months
past he has sent about a Quarter part of a Loaf every day to
