Names in the Books belonging to the same Hospital

And We further find that in the Year 1629 Mary Parradyne< no role >
of the City of London paid to the Mayor Commonalty and Citizens of
London £200 to be Employed for a Stock to set poor People & Apprentice
to work within the said Hospital & that thereupon the said Mayor
Commonalty and Citizens Executed a Bond to the said Mary Parradyne
bearing date the 25th day of June in the same Year in the Penalty of
three Hundred Pounds Conditioned for employing such Money for such
purposes and in default thereof to forfeit and pay the same to the Haberdashire
Company And we also find that Mr John Lock< no role > Citizen of London
by his Will bearing date the 26th. of October 1632 gave £1000 to the
Hospital of Bridewell to be Employed for setting up such as have & Served
their Apprentiship there £5 or £10 at the discretion of the governors
And We also find that Mr John Fowke< no role > Citizen of London by his will
bearing Date the 22d. day of October 1686 Devised Four Houses in
Tower Street to the governors of Bridewell and Bethlem Hospitals
In Trust to apply one Third part of the Profits thereof for Ever to set
up such Young Men as should have served their Apprentiship s in
Bridewell Hospital each £10 and to apply the other two Thirds thereof
to the Use of the Poor Patients in Bethlem Hospital. And we also find
that Mrs. Elizabeth Palmer< no role > Widow by her Will dated the fourth day of
August 1726 Charges all her Messuages and Tenements in Tooks Court
in the Parish of St. Andrew Holborn with the Payment of £1000 within
one Year after her Death for the use of Bridewell Hospital to be laid out in
Lands Tenements and Hereditaments for the Benefit of the said Hospital
as the President and governors thereof & her Executor, should think fit
and the Rents and Profits of such Purchase when made & the Interest &
produce in the mean time to be paid and applied as follows Vizt. £20
a Year for Physic and Nurse for such of the Boys as should be Sick
and the residue for setting them up in their Trades after they shod.
have faithfully Served their Apprentiship s So as no one should
have above £10 for that purpose. And We also find that many
other Gifts and Bequests have been made from Time to Time of
very considerable Estates and Sums of Money part thereof for the use
and benefit of the said Hospitals of Bridewell and Bethlem Jointly and
other Part thereof for the Use and benefit of Bridewell Hospital only and to support
and carry on the Pious & Charitable Uses and Purposes for which the
same was founded and intended

And Secondly as to the Utility of the Artsmasters and their Apprentices
and the Expediency of their Continuation

We are of Opinion that Considering the Institution & Foundation
of the said Hospitals Particularly of Bridewell Hospital which has
been founded and Established by the Highest Authority known in this
Kingdom Vizt. a Royal Grant and Charter (made with great Care &
Deliberation by the Advise and Assistance of the Kings most honble
Counsil) & confirmed by an Act of Parliament made in the 7th. Year
thereon of his said Majesty King Edward the Sixth & considering the Pious Zeal
& Charitable endeavours of our Predecessors governors of the said Hospitals
