Upon Reading a Report from the Comittee of this House dated 30th
March 1753 under the hands of Robert Alsop< no role > Esq Aldn Trear Phineas
Cheeke

At this Comee the Petr: of Thos. Walpole< no role > Esq Saml. Mellor< no role > & Robert
Hardcastle
< no role > (referr'd by last Court was read Setting forthThat the Govrs had
Agreed to let to Hard castle a peice of Ground in Old Bethlem containing 129
feet 3 Inches in front from Lady day 1751 for 62 Years at £25 P Ann rent clear
of Taxes (after the first 2 years) And that Hardcastle had let to Mr Thornton &
Mr Handley each 36 feet House in frontAnd had Agreed to let Mr Walpole 34
feet in front & to Meller 20 feet 3 Inches in front for the Term Agreed to be
let to himAnd praying a Lease to Mr Walpole of sd. 34 feet & a Lease
to Mellor of sd. 20 feet 3 Inches wch is the residue of the sd. 129 feets 3 Inches
(deducting as had been Agreed 3 feet Additional Passage on the Eastside of the
sd. ground) And the Petn. of Robert Taylor< no role > also referr'd by the last Court was
read Settingforth He Agreed for Mr. Walpole with Hardcastle for the sd. 34 feet
of ground for his Term & Liberty of Passage thro' Mr. Handleys Stable Yard
wch Mr. Handley Agreed to upon the Conditions mentioned in a Paper
wrote by himself but now refusesAnd as the Govrs. had reserved 6 feet
of ground backwards all along the South end of the whole ground let to
Hardcastle Praying free Passage thro' the sd. background to be granted to the
Petr. on such Terms as the Govrs. shall think fittAnd Mr. Walpole & Mr.
Taylor being present Mr Trear Acquainted them it was the Opinion of the
Comittee that no more than 4 feet Space shou'd be left at the South end of
the sd. Ground And that the Govrs. shoud reserve to themselves in all Events the
Liberty of building over the sd Space at the hight of 10 feet from the Surface
of the Ground Upon wch Mr. Walpole desired to have the Liberty of Passage
thro' the sd. 4 feet Space during the same term for which he was willing to
pay 2. P Ann rent & a Fine of 25 GuineasThe Comittee having
Considered the same are of Opinion to Grant a Lease with Usual Covents.
to Mr. Walpole of the sd. 34 feet in front for the Remr. of the Term Agreed
to be let to Hardcastle at the rent of £7 P Ann clear of Taxes payable
quarterly with Liberty of Ingress Egress & Regress in by & thro' the sd. 4 feet
Space at the further rent of 2s. P Ann & 25 Guineas fine reserving Liberty of
the Govrs. to build over the sd. 4 feet as aforesd. And Mr. Walpole Executing
a Counterfeit of the sd. LeaseAnd to Grant a like Lease to the Petr
Saml Mellor of the sd. 20 feet 3 Inches in front at the Yearly of £3 clear
of Taxes He Executing a Counterpart of the sd LeaseAnd the Comittee
also reconsidered their Report of the 3d. day of June last more to the Court the 21st. day of March last on the Petrs. of
Godfrey Thornton< no role > Esq & Saml Handley< no role > Esq. referr'd back by the last Court
and Adhere to the Opinion thereingiven All which is Nevertheless
Submitted to the Judgment of the Court And it is Ordered that this
Opinion be ReportedThis Court haveing duly weighed & Considered the
said Report Doth Confirm the same And Order That Seperate Leases be
made to Mr. Thornton and Mr Handley According to the Report of the said Comittee
to the Court 21st. March lastAnd Seperate Leaves to Mr Walpole and Mr. Mellor
According to the Report now read.
