Upon Reading a Report from the Comittee of this House dated the 5th. of Decr. 1748
under the hands of Edward Holloway< no role > Esqr . Trear . Dr . Richard Rawlinson< no role > , Mr. William Fletcher< no role >
and Mr. Nathl. Nash< no role > as followsAt this Comittee Thos. Newman of the Parish of
Hammersmith in the County of Middx Labourer proposed to take a Lease from the Governors
of Bethlem Hospital with usual Covenants of All that Mosse or Tenement with the
Appartes and the Orchard and pair of Ground thereto belonging containing about One
Acre in the said Parish Claterin the Terme of Thos. Parr or his Under Tenants) in the
Condition they now are for 11 Years from Michas last at the Yearly rent of £6 Sum of
all Taxes whatsoever payable quarterly at the Compting House of Bridewell Hospital
London, and to do the Repairations and Amendments hereunder mentioned for re [..]
he is to be Allowed the rent of the first Year and a half and to leave the Premes in
Tenant able repair at the end of the said Term and to that a Counterpart of the sd Lease

The repairs to be done are a follws Vizt.

To make good the Weather Boarding foundation and Plates of the Stable an Old,
Pollard in the Orchard to make the Plates, a Rach and Mainger in the Stable and make
good the Hay left floor, A new Door Case and Door in the front of the House and makeing
good the Weather boarding and Repair the Ov [..] New five barr Gate and Hatch next the
Common , Repairing the weather boarding at [..] of House, two New Sash bells and at all
to back door, two New light Windows in back front and repair the well and Beghouse a Parting
one Strut to a lean too the back part of the house the Kitchen floor repaired with Bricks and the
Passage with boards, a New Shutter to a Window and Repair the Tiling and Glass and Paint
the front and Windows in Oyle, Whereupon this Comittees are of Opinion to Accept the said
Proposall All which is Nevertheless Submitted to the Judgment of the Court And it is Ordered
this opinion be Reported to the CourtThis Court having duly weighed and Considered
the said Report doth Confirm the same and order that a Lease be made to the said
Thomas Newman< no role > Accordingly.

Upon Reading the humble Petition of William Wenden< no role > Shoemaker on e of Your Worships
Artsmasters Setting forthThat at a Court the 3d. of Febry 1743 It was referred to Mr.
Treasurer to lend the Petitioner any Sum of Money on the Petitioners Bond not Exceeding in all
£50 without Interest the better to enable the Petitioner to furnish the Shoes for Christs Hospital
and Accordingly the said Sum of £50 was lent to the Petitioner which he has since
discharged and paid offThat in regard to the dearness of Leather and the Petitioners want
of ready Money to goe to Market with with Advantage the Petitioner is greatly discharged and
under great difficultys to keep his Apprentices who are four in Number at work as they thought to be
And praying the Governors will be pleased to lend him £50 on his Bond the better to enable
him to carry on his said Trade and Execute hid Duty as one of your Worships Arts masters, Ordered
it be referrd to the Comittee of this House to Lend the petr. £50 Or so much thereof as they shall work proper

Apprentice

At this Court William Chalmers< no role > a poor boy (at the Nomination of Mr. President ) was
ordered to be put out an Apprentice to one of the Artsmasters of this Hospital.

In Pursuance of an order of last Court the Order of 8th. July 1743 (Pa 194 )That for the future
no Pson shall be Admitted a Governor of these Hospitals under the Age of Thirty Years But not to
next end to these who have been already NominatedAnd that no Govr who shall be Steward or Porter
nor in any inferior Office in these or any other Hospls. shall have the Priviledge of Nameing any one to be a Govr of
these Hospl. or any other Priviledge of a Govr. hereWas read & Reconsidered, And the Question being
Proposed that the sd Order be repeated the Provisions Question was put that, That Question be now put
and Passd in the Affirnative Then the Question was put that the Order be now repealed and
Passed in the Negative 27 to 22
