Mr. Deputy Hunt one of the Governors of these Hospitals Reported to this Court
that in Pursuance of an Order of Court the 14th. day of Octr. 1748 He had made
enquiry and found that Thomas Watts< no role > who Served his Apprenticeship in this Hospital
to Mr. George Maleone of the Artsmaster s is Sat up for himself in the
Trade of a Velvet Weaver and has the Character of a Diligent and Sobor man

It is Ordered that the Steward of this Hospital do give and pay unto the said
Thomas Wattts< no role > Ten Pounds out of Wm. Locks< no role > Gift To be allowed him in his next
Account.

Mr. Deputy Child affirming to this Court that Mr. William Backwell< no role > (whom he
Nominated at a Court the 29th. day of April last to be one of the Governors of these Hospitals)
was to his Contain knowledge above 30 Years of Ag. at that time and Mr. Barnaby Backwell< no role >
Brother of the said Mr. William Backwell< no role > affirming the same upon his own knowledge
Mr. Treasurer Acquainted the Court That the Comittee of this House werr of Opinion
the said Mr. William Backwell< no role > was a Proper person to be a Governor if he was 30 years
Old which was Doubled and not having a Certificate thereof which they Expected and as
had been done in other like Cases. Therefore they had Suspended makeing their expert
concerning him to the CourtWhereupon It is Ordered that a Staff be sent to the said Mr.
William Backwell< no role > as one of the Governors of these Hospitals

Also at this Court the Order of Court of the 8th. of July 1743 was read as follows
Vizt.Upon Reading a Report form the Comittee of this House under the hands of Edward
Holloway
< no role > Esqr . Treasr Joseph Ayliffe< no role > Esqr . Auditor General Dr. Rawlinson Mr. Samuel
Bridgman
< no role > , Mr. Whalley, Mr. Nash Mr. Cotton, Mr. Henshaw, Mr. Deputy Pycroft. Mr.
Deputy Farrington, Mr. Deputy Hunt, Mr. Bailey Mr. Smith, Mr. Deputy Ballard, Mr. Morice
Mr. Markham, Mr. Mahhor, Mr. Flower, & Mr. Pryse, as follows Vizt.It is the Opinion of
this Comittee. that for the future no Person shall be Admitted a Governor of these Hospitals
under the Age of Thirty Years but not to extend to those who have been already
NominatedAnd that no Governor who shall be Steward, or Porter or many inferrior
office in these or any other Hospitals shall have the Priviledge of Nameing any one
to be a Governor of these Hospitals or any other Priviledge of a Governor hereThis
Court having duly Weighed and Considered the said Report doth Confer in the same
Now at this Court It is Ordered that the said Order be Reconsidered at the next
Courtand that Notice thereof be incerted in the Summons's.

Upon the Motion of Doctor Rawlinson and Thomas Carew< no role > Esqr . It is Ordered
that the old Tables of the Names of Benefactors to these Hospitals be repaired and
beautifyed and that Tables be put up of The subsequent Benefactions, and refered
to the Comittee of each House to consider of Proper Places where to fix 'em.

In Pursuance of an Order of last Court, The Order of 8th. of July [..] 13thThat for the
future [..] een shall be Admitted a Governor of there Hospitals under the Age of Thirty Year but not
to extend to those who have been Already NominatedAnd that no Governor who shall be
Steward or Porter or in any inferrior Office in these or any otter Hospitals shall have the Priviledge of
of Nameing any one to be a Governor of these Hospitals or any other priviledge of a Governor
hereWe read and reconsidered, and the Question being prepared that to [..] order be
repeated the previous Question was put That Question be now put used Passed in the aff [..] ve
Then the Question was put that the Order be now recorded & passed in theHop [..] tive 27 to 22.

NB This was Enterd here by Mistake lot was Ordered at the
following Court & is then Enterd Pa. 393.
