The Care duty and Trust of the Portersman of Bridewell Hospital

To attend Divine Service on Sabbath days

To take care that the Gates are Lock'd up every night at nine o' clock and to
attend the same till the proper watch comes on

To let the Prisoners out every Morning to their Labour and to serve them
with their Provisions and to lock them up at night

To Sweeep the Gates and Square every Saturday
To watch at night and to attend the Gates all publick Holydays
To go with the Engine When Ordered to a Fire
To go with Prisoners before the respective Justices and
To fetch the Doctor Surgeon or Apothecary for them if sick or Lame

The Care duty and Trust of the Steward of Bethlem
Hospital

To enter the names of all the Patients admited the Parishes in on which are
their respective settlements & the names & Places of abode of their Securitys

To discharge from the Curable and charge in the Incurable Book the names
of the Patients so admitted & of their several fresh securitys

To enter in a Book all money received by him

To see that all the provisions contracted for be rightly delivered as to the
Quantity and Quality and cause the same to be augmented or diministed as the Exigenex
of the House requires

To take care that all stores not contracted for be of the best sorts & at
reasonable rates to the best of his Judgment

To provide and deliver out all necessary Bedding & Cloathing for the Patient

To enter all the Patients discharges

To receive all the Annuitys

To adjust & receive all Payments due for Incurables

To receive from Mr. Treasurer all Sums of Money out of the Poors
Box and otherwise as are requisite to pay the Bills passed by the Committee

To surpervise all the servants and if any of them shall be remiss in their
duty to acquaint the Workly Committee To take care that the orders for the Good
Government of the Hospital be strictly observed and if he finds any disorder
or Mismanagement he is to acquaint the Committee

To see performed all Casual Orders of the Court Committee or Treasurer
relating tot he matters aforesaid

of the Porter


The care duty and Trust of the Porter of Bethlem Hospital

To be Keeper of and to open and shutt the Gates
To receive the money for the Poor at the First Gate

To take an account in writing to be set down in a paper by every
Workman employed in the repairs of this Hospital of each days work and Materials
furnished & being examine to file the same

To keep a Key of the Battery Door to see that there is no Waste therein
to cutt out the meat on Tuesdays and Thursdays

To attend the Doctor Mondays and Wednesdays to give him an account
of the Men Patients

To attend and assist at Bathing and Bleeding the Men
