and Mr. Robert Smith< no role > as Governor s of these Hospitals

Sexton of ye Chappel}


A Report was read from the Comittee of the House dated the
27th day of July last as follows ViztPersuant to the Order of last
Court This Comittee took into Consideration the Vacancy by the Death of Roger
Gethin
< no role > late Senior Beadle of this Hospital & Chappel Clerk and Sexton and
find that at his First coming in he had no Sallary as Chappel Clerk but by
Order of Court 18th October 1709 he had a Gratuity of £30 for that Service
for 14 Years past and from that time he had a Gratuity of £4 P Annum
until by an Order of Court 1st. Novemr. 1717 since prayers have been twice
a Week in the Chappel It was Ordered he should have a Sallary of £10. P Ann
as Chappel Clerk and his Sallary as Sexton has been all along £3..16..8 P
Annu And they also find that the said Office of Chappel Clerk has been always
and that of Sexton for many years past Supply'd by one of the Beadles of this
Hospital And therefore This Comittee are of Opinion that the same shou'd so Continue
and not be Divided But this Comittee do likewise find That the said Roger
Gethin
< no role > (who Served this Hospital very faithfully and diligently for many Years)
has left Mary Gethin his Widow and one Child unprovided for & that she Officiated
as Sexton in his life time and has two Apprentices who she humbly desires may
be permitted to Serve out their Apprenticeships with her she having Sufficient
Employment for them and prays also that she may be permitted to Continue
to Officiate as Sexton in the Chappel of this HospitalAnd this Comittee
having Considered the same are of Opinion that it would be an Act of Charity to
Permit the said Mary Gethin to Continue to Officiate as Sexton at the said
Salary of £3..16..8 P Annu during the Pleasure of the Court and that the
said two Apprentices do Serve out their Time with her. All which is nevertheless
Submitted to the Judgement of this CourtAnd upon reading the humble
Petition of Mary Gethin Widow and relict of Roger Gethin< no role > deceased late Senr.
Beadle of this Hospital Setting forth That her said Husband has left her in
low Circumstances and praying to be Admitted Sexton of the Chappel of this
Hospital and that the two Apprentices which were bound to her said late
Husband may Serve out their time with her And the Question being put
The same is Ordered accordingly
