Examination TextThe Examination of Susannah Wright singlewoman, now servant to Mr Dandy near Harvey Court in the Strand in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields, taken upon oath this seventh Day of October in the year of our Lord 1756. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 23 years of age and never was married nor bound an apprentice, that she hath been a yearly hired servant to Mr Dandy aforesaid for the space of 17 months at the yearly wages of 5 pounds diet and lodging, and still continues to live with the said Mr Dandy at the wages aforesaid, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Hinton a journeyman Glazier who works (and is to be found) at Mr Scriven a Glazier in Vere Street Clare Market had carnal knowledge of her body the second Day of May last on a bed in the Kitchin of the house of Mr Pettitt at the Coach and Horses near the New Church in the Strand and several times afterwards at the same place and one other time afterwards at the house of Mr Dandy aforesaid, at which or one of which times he the said John Hinton did beget on her body the said child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said John Hinton is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Benjamin Cox.
