The Examination of Bridgett Thorp< no role > Singlewoman Passed from the
Parish of St. Bridgett vulgarly St. Brides Londn . by Order bearing date the 15th.
Day of Decr. Inst. Who upon her Voluntary Oath saith yt. she is Pregnant
with Child or Childn. wch when Born will be a Bastard or Bastards &
likely to become Chargeable to the Parish of St. Clemt. Danes in the County
of Middx she being poor & not able to maintaine the same wch Born
And further upon her Oath saith yt. one Thos. Lavender< no role > Staymaker did begett
the sd. Child or Childn. on her Body she at such time living with her
Father Wm. Thorp< no role > in the Parish of St. Bridgett aforesd. Staymaker
& he the sd. Thos. Lavender at the same time liveing Journeyman with her
sd. Father Wm. Thorp there became acquainted with her & had Carnall
knowledge of her Body in the lodgings of her sd. Father sevll. times at one
of wch times he got her with the Bastard Child or Childn. with wch she is now
Pregnt. of And yt. he the sd. Thos. Lavender & no other Person is the
time & reall Father thereof And this Examint. further saith that
abt. two Years ago her Father lived in & Rented a House of £12 a Year
in Angel Court in the sd. Parish of St. Clemt. Danes for Nine Months
that he hath not since yt. time Rented any other House Paid Parish
lived with any Person as a Yearly hired Servt. for the space of one Year
or otherwise gained a Settlemt. in any other Place to her Knowledge
or beliefe And yt. she this Examinant never was an Apprentice or Yearly
hired Servt. to any Person but Continued to live with her sd. Father
