The Examination of Jane Seymour< no role > Singlewoman Lodging in the Parish
of St. Clement Danes in the County of Middx Taken the 20th. Day of
Decr. 1739 Who upon her Voluntary Oath saith that she is Pregnant
with Child or Childn. wch When Born will be a Bastard or Bastards
and likely to become Chargeable to the sd. Parish of St. Clement
Danes she being Poor & not able to maintaine the same wn Born
And further upon her Oath saith that one Jos: Leaver< no role > Gardiner to
Henry Masterman< no role > Esqr . at Hillindon in the County of Middx did
begett the sd. Child or Childn. on her Body she this Examint. at
such time liveing as a Servt . with the sd. Hen: Masterman Esqr. &
he the sd. Jos: Leaver liveing in the House there became acquainted
with her & had Carnall Knowledge of her Body sevll. times in
the Months of June & July last in the sd. House at one of which
times he got her with the Bastard Child or Childn. with which she
is now Pregnant And that he & no other Person is the true and
reall Father thereof And this Examint. further saith that her
Father Jno. Seymour< no role > rented a House in Ship Yard in the sd. Parish
of St. Clement Danes of the Yearly Rent of £16 or thereabouts
lived in the same for the space of 16 or 17 Years & there Dyed
And that she this Examint. never was an Apprentice or lived
with any Person as a Yearly hired Servt. for the space of one
Year or otherwise gained any other Settlemt. to her Knowledge
or beleife
