Grand Comittee Mercur 9 Jany 1703:

Minutes of last grand Comittee Read & Approved
Mr. Treasurer Reported That having Advised with
Dectr: Oldys & Dr. Lane abt: the Exempcon of the
Church of St. Thomas from the Vicitacon Appointed
to be held then on Thursday the 27th: of May last
They were both of Opinion That the sd Church is by
Vertue of the Grant from King Edward the 6th: totally
Exempt from all Archipiscopall Episcopall and
Archioaconwall Visitacon a whatsoever, and although
it be made parochiall by that Grand yet is indoned
with all the Priviledges of a Free Chappell; And
thereupon a Meeting being had upon the 26th: of
May between Mr: Trear & Dr. Oldys, and Dr. Champ
Surrogate General, who was to hold this Visitacon: And
Dr. Bramston being accquanited with the Right of
Exempton of the Sd Church, It was after Some delate
Agreed (as an Expedient to Present the Income [..]
which Might attend the Shutting up the Church door
there being not Sufficient time to Appoint the Visitacon
at any other Church) That the Doors Should be Kept
Shutt till Dr. Brawston Came over the next Moring
And that a Protest in the Name of the Governor
Should be delivered or made to him by the Clerke of this Hospital at the Dsores
of the Church (being then Shutt) agt his holding
the Vicitacon there, And that thee upon he Should
with draw into the Hospll: and make & Signe a
Declarton for Precering the Right of the Sd Church
to be Exampt from Such Vicilation The Forne of
which Protest & Declaration were they Settled [..]
by the Advice of Dr. Oldys And [..]
that after Signing of [..] Daclaration the Church Doors Should be Opinion and
