The County Repairs New prison & Bridewell
Accot. of Number of Prisoners for the last ten

New Prison is very old
The prisoners have been in good Health
Attributes it to air & cleanliness
Nine died & one stabb'd himself in 10 yrs.
none of a contagious Distemper.

In winter sweeps it daily-in sumer
partly wash in every Morning

every might Tubs are put into the Wards for
Prisoners, emptied every Morning into the
necessary & then put made, the pumps & wash'd
If Filth lodges in Shores, throw down water
to wash it away.

There are Houses near New Prison .88
port open to large garden a Sufft. quantity
ofair &light & air.

Prisoners sent from New Prison to
Newgate in one year.89

ififhad shod. use herbs & tobacco.

If we neglected cleaning, the Gaol wod. be more

Salary is £50. pd. by the County.

Tis wash'd every Morning in Summer-in
Winter twice a Week & Swept twice.

Some have died but not of Gaol distemper
No Gaol Distemper in New Prison for 18 yrs. go
Never removes prisrs to Newgate when ill
Known Newgate about 18 years-and if same
care & clean linnen in Newgate 'twould be
more healthy than 'tis.

Newgate not so sweet at our Gaols for we have
more air-If an area at Newgate twould be [..]
