under Sentence of Transportation ought to
be taken away at four stated Times in the
Year, That they Ordinarily remain from
two to three Months in Newgate
and that
sometimes it happens that they remain
until the Prisoners come in from the
other Gaols for Trial at the third Session
and that Middlesex
Prisoners for Debt
remain the Year round-That there are
15. or 20. Middlesex
Debtors to one of London
That many but not a Majority of the
Middlesex
Debtors remove themselves
from Newgate immediately soon after their Comitment
but that he has a constant Succession
of Middlesex
Debtors-That he had no
Debtors from Westminster
nor would he
accept the Bailiffs Writ in Execution he
having no right to comit bring his prisoners
there nor has he many Original Comitments

from those who are Justices for Westminster
and Middlesex
-That his Account delivered in
is of Prisoners of all sorts and includes
Prisoners brought to Newgate
by Habeas
Corpus that when the Habeas Corpus is directed
to the Sheriffs of London he has placed that prisr. to the London Account and when to
the Sheriff of Middlesex
to the Middlesex
Account, but had kept no Account of what was
the proportion of such prisoners-That very
few were committed by Habeas Corpus
not more than 10, or 12. in to year-That a
few are Committed for Debt due to the Crown
some by Habeas Corpus and-some but Writ to the
Sheriff of Middlesex
-That the Middlesex
Prisoners are upon an Average 3. or 4 to one
London Prisoner throughout the Year.
To prove that Newgate is close ill constructed
and Incommodious.
