went into a Hackney Coach, and ordered the Coachman
to follow the Post Chaise and to drive as fast as he could
but he was not able to come upto some upwith the
Post Chaise, says that after driving about a Quarter
of a Mile, and not being able to over take the Choice
the Coachman was ordered to turn back to town, says
that Between five and Six O' Clock that Afternoon Depont,
called at the Deced's lodging in Johnson's Court to
enquire after him, says that the deced was at that
time brought home in a Chair by two Chairman, says
that he assisted in getting the Deced up Stairs, Deponent
says that the Deced, wa then basilby and then told him that he was Wounded,
and that Mr. Gardner was very Brave and Gallant,
Says that Mr. Conner a Surgeon come in immediately
and (When the Deced was Shipped) Examined the wound,
in the presence of Deponent, and Deponent then saw
the Wound on the Deced's right side. Deponent says
that the Deced afterwards said, I wonder how I
missed him, (by which Deponent believes the Deced
meant Mr. Gardner knowing they went out together but Deced did not mention Mr.
Gardner's name) and said that we were not more
than seven or eight Paces ascender, Deponent says
that Mr. Gardner shewed him two Letters in the Coach
as they were going to White Chapel that Day that he said he had reced from Mr. Hill, which
Deponent believes to be the Deceds hand writing, he
having ofter seen the Deced write and was acquainted
with his hand, writing, says [..] that in one of
them the Deced desired Mr. Gardner to meet him with
Pistols at the Piazza Coffee house that Morning (being
Wednesday the Eighth of February) at Eleven O' Clock
to the best of Deponents Knowledge,
