April 1795.

By Adjournment same day.

The following Application of Walter Hattam for an
Allowance on the Smiths Contract Work at the New House of
Correction being read in the following Words Vizt.

"To the Worshipful His Majestys Justices of the peace for the
"County of Middlesex ".

I beg leave to solicit your Worships for an Allowance on
the Smiths Contract Work performed by me at the House of
Correction in Cold Bath fields having entered into the Contract at the
latter end of the year 1789. I was in hopes that the Building would
have been proceeded upon with that expedition as would enabled me to
have completed the Work in due time that I should have had no
occasion to apply for redress, but there being so much time elapsed
before the Work was wanted, An Advance of Cast Iron took place of
3sh P Ct. on Wrought Iron 2s/6d P Ct. on the Bell 4d. P lb. and on the
Coppers 5d. P lb. which commenced in Jany. 1793 and it is from this
period that I request an Allowance on my Work, and which
hope and trust your Worships will be pleas'd to take into
consideration as it is all the Money out of my Pocket, and these
extraordinary advances were such that there was no possibility to
foresee. I have here annex'd the several Weights of each Article and
humbly solliciting your Worships generosity, and my Contract being on
such very low terms, leaves me little or no profit exclusive of the
Advance

With all due respect,
I am, your Worships most Obedt.
and very humble Servant.
